Driver's License Suspension in New Jersey
My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: New York

I'm about to get my driving privleges suspended (on my NY license) in NJ due to excessive points( all from NJ).According to a traffic lawyer I spoke to my priveleges get suspended only in NJ (not NY or any other state). My question how does NJ know my privileges are suspended? I'm moving to a different state (CT) and getting a license from them. Will NJ be able to see that I'm suspended by running my CT license. Furthermore my name is misspelled on my NY license (Will correcting it make them not be able to track me?)

Computers are marvelous things. While they can't suspend your NY license, they certainly can flag you as suspended in NJ. You may find it impossible to get a NEW license anywhere with the suspension active.

All states specifically disclaim the validity of their DL, if you are under suspension in another state. They reference by SS#. The traffic lawyer was advising you to break the law if he told you otherwise.

Technically, the NJ traffic lawyer is right. Your license / right to operate will only be suspended for the violations in New Jersey. However, if NJ notifies New York of the suspension, New York will likely suspend your driver’s license under reciprocity. I don’t think that the misspelling f your name on your New York License will save you. Without reciprocity, drivers could get away with violations committed in other states and not have to pay their citations.
