My question involves criminal law for the state of California. I've looked everywhere for this and got mixed answers. Can leather armbands with metal spikes be considered a weapon, and can I get in trouble for wearing them in public? Thanks!

I find nothing in state law prohibiting them, but some localities might. You'd need to check your city's municipal code.
How long are the spikes?
Thanks for your reply! The spikes are about 2 inches long. I don't know if it makes a difference, but they are round, not sharp at the end.
Are they ornamental and would break off, if used as a weapon or are they fixed securely and could be use as a weapon? Remember your definition and an officers may differ and you will incur legal expenses defending yourself. Here is the appropriate code and definition I believe applies.

Quote:
24) As used in this section, a "dirk" or "dagger" means a knife or other instrument with or without a handguard that is capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death. A nonlocking folding knife, a folding knife that is not prohibited by Section 653k, or a pocketknife is capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death only if the blade of the knife is exposed and locked into position.
You might find yourself prohibited from going into some clubs or bars, and I suspect most any K-12 public school will prohibit them.
Oh dear. At two inches long, you REALLY need to check your local code very carefully, as at that length, they can be construed as a weapon.
You might consider something of a more reasonable length.
It's not a specific violation of CA state law, but local codes might prohibit these ... I am not familiar with any cities or counties that do have such a prohibition, but it is possible.
I'll look into whether there are any local restrictions. Thanks for everyone's help!
