Misdemeanor Theft
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland
I was charged with misdemeanor theft in august of 2008, which is 2 months after the offense happened. In June 2008 at the time of entry into the military there were no pending charges or warrants for my arrest. In August of 2008 my family received a court summons for me to appear in court, but at that same time i had already left the state for basic training and did not get word on it until my parents visited me on graduation(Aug. 30). A month later( late September early October) when i continued my military entry training my family informed me that i was ordered to pay restitution to the company who filed charges (this was not ordered by the court but the lawyers of the company who filed a claim). They paid restitution and the civil mater was ended. Now The state of Maryland is still pushing the offense and since i missed my court date they have issued a warrant with extradition in neighboring states(New York, Virginia, Washington, d.c, Delaware and Pennsylvania). The problem I'm having now is I live in a different state( non of the ones listed earlier) almost 2000 miles away and cannot seem to get extradited back to the state of origin with the warrant. I went to jail for being a fugitive but then i got released the same day after the magistrate deemed not enough convincing details in the warrant to keep me, and the fact that Maryland would not come and get me. What can i do now to get this resolved its becoming a very tight headache.

Re: Misdemeanor Theft
You can retain a lawyer in the county where the charge is pending to negotiate a resolution of the charge. It will likely be necessary for you to travel back at least one time. Given the background I don't think self-help efforts are likely to be fruitful.
