Failed to Py Civil Demand by Deadline
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

I am 18, I stole from Sephora. I was taken to the police station and was filed for theft, and my court case was a week ago. The date was postponed to a later time, and my defense attorney told me he would attempt to extend my payments. I haven’t been checking my mail, due to semester finals in school. On 11/28, it noted SECOND SETTLEMENT LETTER. so now they demand 735 from me....within 10 days of the date on the letter so today is the last day i could have paid but I never got the first letter. Today is December 8, 2011. I just got the letter, so… I don’t know what to do next. I called but they haven’t answered. They asked me stay on and hold because they were experiencing "high call volumes," and now the phone lines are closed. I would very much appreciate any responses.

Re: Charged with Petty Theft and Asked to Pay $735 but I Missed Deadline
You don't have standing to change the demand amount. You can ask, however, it may go up again due to legal fees, by the time you get in touch with someone who counts.

Keep calling until you get to someone. Additionally, you should write a letter asking for payment arrangements, and ask them to call you. Send it certified, return receipt requested.
