Coupon Fraud
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
worked at a drugstore for a few months an made a mistake involving some store coupons and manufacturing coupons.
i came up with $25 short of the store coupons and had a meeting with the store manager and assistant managers and i told them what had happened.
a few days later i had a meeting with the Loss Provention manager.
the meeting ended with me saying i would pay back to missing coupons immediatly and i did. and then they fired me (no biggie, my mistake i had accepted my punishment from it). The LPM had said since i paid it in full and immediatly he didnt see that they would take it any further.
well a few weeks later i got a letter in the mail from their lawyers wanting $300 for a civil claim against me.
i had actually set the letter aside to deal with it later but i had forgot because i was dealing with my new job
i had revcieved another letter a few days ago saying they now want $650!
I do not see why they are asking for this since i paid the coupons back. Should i get a lawyer? what should i do?

Re: Coupon Fraud
This is called a Civil Demand, and it is perfectly legal. Basically, it is a civil lawsuit against you. Remember all the time the managers and LP spent with you? And the time for them and LP to investigate? You are being asked to reimburse their loss - aka, the damage you caused.
As you can see, you ignored the first letter. Now the amount has gone up. Guess what will happen if you do not pay, or make payment arrangments? They can take you to Civil Court, tack on attorney fees; once they have a judgment against you and you still don't pay - it goes on your credit report.
