Possession of Marijuana on Northern Michigan University
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
Hello,
My younger brother was caught in possession of two grams of weed on Northern Michigan University's campus last night. He is rather nervous and unsure what will happen. I have never been in a situation like this before but he asked me not to tell our parents and I want to help him in any way possible.
I have been researching what could happen, up to one year in prison and/or $2,000 fine, but I was curious as to what will happen next.
Any and all help would be appreciated. I want to help him as much as possible and get him in as little trouble as possible.
Thank you.

Re: Possession of Marijuana on Northern Michigan University
If he's charged with simple possession, first offense, he should look into a "7411" (seventy-four eleven) deferred sentence under MCL 333.7411, so he can avoid a conviction. If he's comfortable raising the issue directly with the prosecutor he can try that, but it would be sensible to consult a criminal defense lawyer.
