Husband Wants a Divorce After 2 Months
My question involves a marriage in the state of possible divorce. My good friend called today saying that he husband of just 2 months wants a divorce. He was the one who pushed to get married quickly and now he wants out. My friend sold all of her furniture and recently terminated her lease with her apartment to move forward with becomming one household. The husband has trust issues and is accusing the wife of contacting an ex boyfriend when she has not. He wants her out and she is devastated. Does she have any entitlement to assets and is he repsonsible for helping her get back what she had before the hurried marriage? There are no children between the 2 parties. Any informative feedback would be greatly appreciated. This is in the state of TN.
    Thank you!!!

She can sign another lease and should have the money from her furniture.

I doubt that they accumulated much in the way of a marital estate over the course of two months, but she would normally be entitled to half of whatever the marital estate happens to be, along with her separate property. He has no special duty to help her buy back items that she sold. You indicate that she is not bound to a lease, so she is free to seek new housing wherever and whenever she wants.

I agree with Mr. Knowitall. The court will only divide the "marital" property - that property that they acquired while married. Typlically, she would get to take all the property (or proceeds from property sold) out of the marriage that she brought into the marriage.
