Is Switching Price Tags A Form of Theft
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Iowa. I am wondering if someone could help- while I know what I did was dishonest, I can not find anything in Iowa law that would cover switching price tags under iowa's theft laws. I have never been in any kind of trouble before this and I was hoping someone with more understanding of interpreting laws could confirm whether or not Iowa law covers changing price tags as theft. Thank you for your time and help, I greatly appreciate it.
Re: Is Switching Price Tags Covered in Iowa Law As Theft
It is theft. You have intentionally deprived the store of money by switching that tag.
State laws vary, but if you used a tool (scissors, nail clippers, pocket knife, etc) to remove the original tag, it would also be considered a higher level of theft, as you planned to do it.
Re: Is Switching Price Tags Covered in Iowa Law As Theft
In Iowa, switching tags is still theft under 714.1 (3). You obtained the goods without paying their value by deception.
Note the value of the goods, not just the difference between the real price and what you paid fraudulently
The tool enhancement only applies to removing/disabling antitheft tags, not normal price tags.
Re: Is Switching Price Tags A Form of Theft
Sorry, you did not find a new way to steal. Try again next year.
