Not Given Proper Credit for Support Payments
My question involves child support in the State of: Michigan. March of 1978 I filed for devorce. I moved to Atlanta, GA two years later. September of 1986, I received a petition from the State of Michigan through the State of Georgia for back child support. I was petitioned again in 1990, and 1994. On October 29, 2001 I received a paid in full statement from the office of the District Attorney, State of Georgia, Child Support Divison. May 2006, I was contacted by the State of Michigan and told that I owed back child support. I sent the State of Michigan a copy of my payments for child support that was taken out of mp paychecks and sent to the courts in Georgis, and the paid in full receipt. February 2007 I went to court in Michigan and was told that they had not received any monies from Georgia, and I still owed back child support. This has been going on for 33 years. My children are 42 and 41; I'm 66 and need help. Michigan is taking money out of my check and it looks like they mey go after my social security check. I have very little money and a lot of medical bills. I need help! I'm requesting someone to direct me on how to file the appropreate motions or injunctions to stop the State of Michigan from getting duplicate child support and stop them from bleeding me dry.
Re: Not Given Proper Credit for Support Payments
Is this about arrears owed to your ex- or to the state?
If it's your ex-, and she in fact got the money, how about asking her to cooperate with your petition to discharge the outstanding balance.
If the issue is that your ex- received the money directly from Georgia, for some reason, but was collecting public assistance from the State of Michigan such that your arrears are presently owed to the state, as suggested by your past ten years of experience, I don't think you're likely to unravel things without the help of a lawyer.
