Trying to Get Medical Expenses Paid
My question involves child support in the State of: Iowa
My ex is required to pay child support and if he is not up to date by the end of the year then I get to claim my oldest child on my income taxes. Does this same rule apply when he's not up to date on medical expenses? I sent him a medical bill which he is suppose to pay 75% of and he has 30 days to pay it. It has been two months now and still no payment. Can I claim my oldest on my income taxes this year if he's not paid up in medical expenses? I mean why does it state he has 30 days to pay it....does that just mean he's in contempt if the bill is not paid in 30 days or does that mean if he doesn't pay it then I can claim her on my taxes just like when he's behind on child support? Thanks for the help!
Re: Trying to Get Medical Expenses Paid
I can't read your support order from here. Does the support order say that he has to be caught up in medical expenses by the end of the year or you get to claim your oldest child on your taxes?
Re: Trying to Get Medical Expenses Paid
Unless the court order addresses the issue, the answer is likely "no". Medical expenses are not generally "considered" the same way child support is considered.
With that said, we really need to know exactly how the order is worded.
