After Shoplifting, Can I Get Caught
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
I went to a Best Buy in the state of California on black friday at 6am and I took the battery from a working model of a display cell phone, then I walked over to the laptop section. When I left the store, no one stopped me and I do not believe any one followed me to my car. What are the odds that Best Buy pursues this with me with the LP crew through store surveillance cameras inside and outside the store? I heard they have good surveillance technology. Honestly, it was my first time shoplifting and will be my last time and now thinking back I feel stupid for doing it at all. Thinking about all the consequences/paranoia is driving me nuts. If they do contact me through police or a fine what should I do?
Re: After Shoplifting, Can I Get Caught
Yes, if you steal you can get caught. What are the odds you'll be caught this time? You haven't been caught yet, for what that's worth, and for the end of the story you'll have to wait and see what happens. If you have no sense that your theft was detected and were not confronted, odds are that the LP's didn't notice.
