Do I Qualify for Emancipation
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Tennessee. I know some of the emancipation laws but I'm not very familiar with it. I am 16 years old, I just got a job at Shannondale that started me out at $8.00 and hour. I used to live with my Dad, but he recently died in a car wreck. So I get a social security check every month and my mom spends most of it to go out and party with her boyfriend. That money is there to help her support me, but she's never home and she's always out with him. And soon I'll get a lot more money from his insurance policy and I don't want my mom to be able to touch it. I want to save my money to be able to go to college and someday buy my own house, but she goes through it like its nothing. She uses that money to pay for my health insurance but that's the only time she uses it to support me. The rest goes to her partying every weekend. I bought my own car, I pay for my gas, I buy my food and clothes, I pay for my shampoo and conditioner etc., and I've been taking care of myself for awhile now. I honestly think that emancipation would be best for me. I understand that living on my own would be a big responsibility but I honestly think that it would be good for me. I'm just not really sure how to become emancipated and if I qualify?
