Underage Drinking Ticket

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Wisconsin

I live in WI and I am 18 years old for the record. I was at a house party and the cops were standing around outside the party. I left the house and a cop stopped me and started asking me some questions. She didn't breathalyze me or give me a field sobriety test. She asked if I had been drinking that night and I said I had a couple of drinks. She then asked what I meant by that and I said a couple of drinks. I want to fight the ticket because it is complete crap since no tests were given to me and I said I had a couple of drinks but that could mean anything. I didn't specify to drinking any alcoholic beverages. So do I have a chance in fighting this or no? Since no test was given and I didnt admit to drinking any alcohol.

You are free to take the case to trial and to try to convince the court that you had no idea that the officer was inquiring about alcoholic beverages and you had merely been sipping water or diet coke. I would give you a snowball's chance, so to speak, but it's your life and money.

I'm still baffled by the idea that an adult can be arrested or cited for having a couple drinks.

I'm more baffled by the idea that someone who has broken the law, no matter how wrong-headed that law might be, would freely confess to it when casually asked by a cop. Seriously!

As for getting the charge dismissed on the argument that you confessed to a couple drinks, but not a couple drinks of alcohol, good luck. I'm so out of date on my slang-type words I could have probably pulled off that defence, though I did all of my underage drinking in countries where it was legal. :p
