Can My Roommate Offer to Buy Me Out
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Michigan.

My roommate is the son to my landlord. Recently two new roommates have moved in an are pre-occupying the living room. I pay $200 a month for my bedroom and pay all my utilities on time along with rent. One of the newer roommates has offered the landlords son 10,000 dollars for my room. No lease was provided to me even after I asked for one when I moved-in in September.

My roommate (who is the son of the landlord) wants me out, and is willing to pay $1000 and first two months rent at some other location. I feel he is just trying to keep my mouth shut by bribing me from snitching to his parents about this. Am I entitled more than basically $1500, or should I sue the son and get all the rent I paid, since no lease was made, and the $1500?

If you want to remain in the unit, you can remain in the unit per your lease. If you're a month-to-month tenant, and from the facts you've shared that appears to be your status, you can be asked to move out by your landlord on 30 days notice.

If moving out is acceptable, but you are negotiating over the amount of money it will take to get you to agree to move out, you are free to negotiate for whatever amount you believe is acceptable. If you demand too much, of course, you may find that you lose the opportunity. If your roommate goes to his parents and asks them to give you 30 days notice, they can evict you if you haven't moved out by the end of that notice period.

It doesn't seem credible that somebody would offer to pay $10,000 to live in a bedroom that rents for $200 per month.

    Thank you.

I know it doesn't seem credible. This is the information relayed to me by my roommate.
