    Unauthorized Company Credit Card
Some time ago, my company announced that it would require all employees to obtain a company credit card. This card would be jointly owned between the company and the individual employee. I objected to this move. When the card program was instituted I did not make any move to participate. However, someone within the company with access to my personal information applied for me.

I see several issues with this situation:
    - My private information was provided to third party without my permission.
    - This occurred on a page with the words “I do certify…” which means they impersonated me or acted as me agent for which they did not have permission.
    - A new card was issued in my name which opened me to financial loss.
    - I received a hard hit on my credit. My credit score dropped 10 points in the same period in the absence of any derogatory credit posts.

At this point in time, I am not sure what to do. I do not have much in the way of damages from this but I think anyone would agree that this situation is wrong. Would it be worth my while to take them to court in light of this?

I no longer work for this company. I left for another job and even as I was leaving they were asking me to stay. I mention this only to indicate that I am not concerned about repercussions from them and that they would have an issue painting me as a disgruntled employee.

    What should I do?

if you no longer work there, cancel the card and move on with life. The time to make an argument was when it was forced upon you, not now. Unless you did something about the issue then, it will be seen as you agreed and as such, have no claims now.

Thank you for your response. I understand that I really don't have much in the way of damages to claim, but I'm not understanding what time has to do with it. This happened about 10 months ago. Well within any statute of limitations issues. I'm not going to lie; anyone would want a payday for being wronged by their employer. That is not my main motivation. I don’t want them to do this to someone else and for them to get hurt from it. I think any move I make would make them “rethink” their practices.

I did challenge them at the time. The guy who actually filled out my application for the card did admit to me that he did it and that he was told by supervisors to do it. When I talked to the supervision I was directed to the policy manual. That is where i found that the employee did not have to agree to their credit report inquiry (it could be completed in its absence) and that the employee must be the only one to fill out the application.

    Does this make any difference?

did you contact the card company and cancel the account? Did you report the crime of fraud or identity theft or any other possible crime to the police?

the statute of limitations has nothing to do with this. Your failure to act when you learned of the situation was you ratifying the actions. You have no case.
