Seventeen-Year-Old is Going to Be a Father and Wants to Move Out
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: California
My 17yr old son and his 17yr old girlfriend just found out they are to to be parents. My son has only been 17 for 2 months and now he wants to move in with his girlfriend and her Mom. The girls Mom invited him to live there rent free, no obligations (I have a big problem with this). After many verbal discussions with my son I finally got a back bone and told him NO. I just need to know if I have any legal leg to stand on to keep him home and in school?

You have every right to keep him home.
Right up until he turns 18.
Stand your ground, Mom. You're the parent here - not him. He does NOT get to choose where he lives until he's legally allowed to do so - and that's going to be 18.
(Apologies if you're Dad - it was an assumption on my part :o )

He can only move out with your permission. And if anyone is aiding him in having sexual relations (still) with this girl, everyone can go to jail - kids and parents included.

When Junior is 18 he can decide to go live on his own and play house. Until then, he can only leave with your permission. If he tries to leave without your permission, call the cops and they will drag him back home. And if the other mom aids him in being out of your control, then she can go to jail, too.
Your son and his girlfriend are both technically guilty of misdemeanor unlawful sexual intercourse. Generally, it will be the male charged. He might want to keep a low profile. He is certainly going to be financially tied to this girl and the child forever, so he had best get ready to go out and get a job and forget about teenage fun and frolic, because he's going to have to grow up and be dad. Unfortunately for him, the odds are that he and the baby momma won't be together in a few years, so he'll have to make enough money to pay child support as well as support himself. Not easy even in good times.
So, keep to your guns. He can stay home. When he moves out on his 18th birthday, wish him well, but I would insist that he not bounce back and forth home and away. He made an adult decision to conceive a child, now he will have to act like and adult and support it.
