Embezzlement from Wal-Mart
My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Mexico
I got fired for embezzlement on 11/4/11 (on Friday). A few coworkers and I had this plan going on where we would skip scanning certain merchandise. We took clothes, and movies mostly.
The head AP associate did an interview with me where I did confess. I may have confessed to stealing $1,000 worth of stuff which I think about now and it is totally over exaggerated (my bad on my part). I was really scared and nervous. We recounted how much the merchanside we have in our possession is worth and for me, it was $170 worth of blu-ray movies. A total of 6 movies. That's it.
I don't really know how they will charge us, for the merchandise we did not scan or for the merchandise we have in our possession or for both.
The AP associate that talked with my coworker first, said we would split it 3 ways. Whatever that means. The AP associate also tried pinning us with bogus missing merchandise, such as TVs and CDs which we NEVER took.
A local police officer came in and said he was going to bring a detective in but the detective was not available so the officer just took my basic information such as phone number, name, SSN, and DOB. He said that we would be contacted (no specific date). My other coworker did not get a police visit during her interview. She did not give the officer her name, etc. like my other coworker and I did.
This is my first offense of anything. Never been arrested. No priors. I am scared and nervous and can't stop thinking about it.
The only thing I'm worried about is this going on my record...forever. I don't care how much I need to pay back. If I could've given them my last check, I would've yesterday when I cashed it.
The hardest thing for me was telling my parents. They believe in me so much. I let them down BIG TIME.
Any advice would be helpful.

Prepare for thousands in restitution related expenses.
Re: Embezzlement from Wal-Mart
Sugar, you NEED an attorney, and you need one NOW. The police are involved, and criminal charges will not be far behind. WalMart prosecutes.

You also need a lot of money to pay all the fines and legal fees....
