    Shoplifting in Wooster, Ohio
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio

My friend and I were in an at&t store in wooster, ohio. At some point when the store manager was assisting us i went and lifted a 75$ bluetooth device; it was the first time I ever did a thing like that and I am truly devastated by the fact that I actually did it. I am deeply remorseful about it and couldn't sleep properly the last few days from guilt and tension.
The store guy suspected us a little later and called the police. before the police arrived I got the device out of my pocket and placed it in the desk. The cop came and frisked us both and found nothing on us. She was just about to let us go but at this point the manager discovered the device on the desk and said we had definitely taken it first and placed it back. The cop took our names and addresses and let us go. However, she came back to my dorm room the next day and issued a no tresspass letter for that store for me. she also asked me if i wanted to make a statement and i said i didn't. Am i looking at any trouble? what should I do at this point?

Keep your mouth shut and stay away from that store.

You should keep your mouth shut and if the police ask again tell them you decline to speak to them without a lawyer. You should stay out of the store and anywhere else encompassed by the trespass letter.

You should expect a civil demand letter from the store (may not happen, but it may).
The police/prosecutor will evaluate if they have a reasonable case to go further with criminal charges. It could take a year for the charges to show up.

Firstly, Thanks a lot for the reply. I think I should also mention that the the cop lady who came to my dorm said she if I wanted to make a statement because she was gonna go look at the security tapes (which, if she does, she will find me guilty). what exactly can happen after that? if the prosecutor decides to press charges, what kind of charges might they be?
Thanks a lot for ur help. It means a lot. I have really learned a lesson from this and I will never repeat anything remotely similar.

    Shoplifting most likely.

The charge would be theft. At $75, you're in the class A misdemeanor range (six months in jail and/or $1000 fine).
No matter what the police tell you, the point of any questioning at this point is to get you to incriminate yourself.
Refuse to talk to them without a lawyer.
If arrested or charged, get a lawyer.

How much could it possibly cost to get a lawyer? is it pretty certain at this point that I will get charged (because everything I did should be on camera)? also, could I get this off my record?

Depends on how far it goes. If you get to the point where you need one (arrested or charged), consult with one. I guarantee the price will be discussed early on.
