MIP and Drunkeness
My question involves criminal law for the state of:South Carolina
I am a student at USC and I received 2 tickets over the weekend: one for MIP and the other for drunkeness. I am under 21 and I had a beer in my hand at a bar. What should I do to make the best out of a bad choice? Do I need an attorney to go with me to court or should I just appear myself? What type of fine am I looking at?

Re: MIP and Drunkeness
Since there are dozens, if not hundreds, of threads in this forum asking pretty much the same question, perhaps you should take the time to read some of them.
You can discuss with a local lawyer whether your county, prosecutor and court are apt to offer you a deal on the MIP ticket, such as deferral or diversion. The availability of such dispositions varies even within a state, so your best source of information remains a local lawyer (or, if you're lucky, the court or prosecutor's website).
If you want a lawyer to go with you to court, you may retain one to go with you to court. You know your capacity for self-representation much better than we do.
Your charged offenses are misdemeanors, carrying the potential for fines and jail time, and there is potential for a driver's license suspension. For a first offense, jail time is unlikely.
