    North Carolina MIP Citation
I recently received a citation for age 20 minor in possession of a malt beverage. An A.L.E. officer saw me drinking from a solo cup and asked for my ID. While he collected ID's from my friends who were over 21 I casually poured out my cup of beer but another officer was watching from afar and walked up to confront me and dispute my claim that I had not been drinking. The two of them took me to an unmarked car where I was issued the citation. The court date is AFTER my 21st birthday.

    KEY POINTS

no prior trouble with the law

    20 years old

court date AFTER my 21st birthday

I did not blow into a breathalyzer, there is no mention of consumption on my citation

    $25 citation $180 court costs

Working college student with good grades

Friends that have been in the same situation (court date after 21st bday) have told me that they were able to get the charge dropped. Is this a possible scenario? What are good courses of action for someone in my position?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Is it a possible scenario? Sure - but nobody here can promise that it will happen in your case. The best course of action is to consult a local lawyer about the charge, to determine the practices of the local court and prosecutor.
