Teen Marriage in New Mexico

hi, im 15 years old *well i turn 15 on sunday*. I live in Deming, new mexico, i want to get married, so i can leave me house. i cant take staying here any more. my fiance is 18 and we both have jobs and a house/trailer. but i know my parents wont sign the papers. is there anything i can do?

Yes, wait until you are 18 or your parents give their consent.

the thing is i know my parents will never sign papers for it, cuz they dont like my fiance. and i need to get out of this house, and i heard, the only way i can get emancipated was if i was married.??

In New Mexico if you are under 16 you would need a court order and your parents permission. Without it, it isn't going to happen.

What is the reason you must get out of the house?

my parents are treating me like shit since my brother came home. they've been abusing me, yelling at me because he did something wrong. theyve already tried to kick me out before, but everytime i go to leave, my dad kicks my ass and throws me back into my room.

yeah, but noone believes me. ive talked to many people. and its not only my parents. my brother threatens me. so i cant tell him no to anything.

Who exactly have you reported it to?

the consulers at the schools, and i think one or two of the cops here. but the cops are so freaking stupid. they hardly do anything. they just made my parents go to a few classes. and that just pissed them off more.

2. Licensed physicians, residents, or interns, registered nurses, and visiting nurses.
3. Social workers
4. Law enforcement officers
5. A judge presiding during any proceeding


Failure to Report
If you suspect abuse and/or neglect and do not report your suspicion you can be charged with a misdemeanor in a court of law.
