Apartment Management Claims Money for Damage Which I Didn't Cause
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Texas
Regarding transfer from one unit to another unit in same apartment complex.
I recently got transferred to a apartment unit within the apartment complex where I am already residing on my own interest, before moving to this new unit I gave my best to clean the previous unit and made it look good. But 10 days after moving, I got a bill from my apartment management demanding money ($900) for carpet replacement. I refused to pay this money because I see this carpet replacement as unnecessary. I went to meet them in person and got a rude treatment from the manager and finally they decided to handover this to collection agency.I counter argued that I am going to take this to the appropriate court and left the place. I actually had small claims court in my mind and later realised that my claim won't be eligible for that court since the apartment management doesn't owe any money to me.
What should I do now?

You didn't have a security deposit? Or your security deposit was consumed by other debts and damage you don't dispute?

Since my case is a transfer from one unit to another in same apartment complex, the security deposit of previous unit got transferred to the deposit ledger of the unit to which I got transferred :(. So deposit is still not lost, but they demand money for carpet replacement of my previous unit.
