Minor in Possession, Under Age 18 - What's the Penalty
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Colorado.
I was told that additional charges may be added by the judge, but I'm skeptical. Furthermore, while I understand that this is a petty offense and the punishments stop at license revocation, $250 fine, community service, and possible classes, how bad of a stain is this on a record if you are 17? Can this be expunged? Do I need a lawyer?

If you choose to commit a crime and are convicted of that crime, you get a conviction on your criminal record.
If you're seventeen in Colorado, you're in juvenile court, correct? Talk to a local lawyer about whether you might qualify for diversion or a deferral. If so, and you successfully complete such a program, you can seek an expungement (the sealing of your record) after a year. Otherwise, assuming you're not a repeat offender, you would likely be able to expunge your record after four years.
