Back Child Support in Michigan
My question involves child support in the State of: Michigan
I am 22 years old and I was informed that my mother was collecting back child support payments for me and I was no longer living in her house. I was told that she starting collecting shortly after i left at the age of seventeen. I wanted to know could she do that, am I entitled to any of that money?
Re: Back Child Support in Michigan
Yes, she is allowed to do that and no, you are not legally entitled to any of it. Child support is intended to assist with the costs of raising a child - i.e. it helps to pay for the child's clothing, housing, utilities, etc. It is not a direct allowance for the child.

Yep. Mom's only getting paid BACK for all the money she spent raising you into adulthood.
