Class a Misdemeanor for Holding 1 Vicodin Pill
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
I got arrested for warrants when i was out with my husband and friends. One of our friends has been perscribed vidodin because he fell off a two story balcony and injured his shoulder. He brought a pill out with him when we went out and asked me to hold it for him since, being a guy, he doesnt have a purse and doesnt carry the perscription bottle around because of the personal information about him on it. When a bar fight broke out where we were we got our id's taken up and i was taken in for warrants and my husband and friend were taken in for PI's. When the cops went through my things and found the pill i told them it wasn't mine and it was my friends who was in the holding tank next to us. Long story short i got charged with a class A misdemeanor and have to got trial for it. I didn't know the serverity of this situation until i started researching it and now i'm a little freaked out at the possibility of paying up to $4,000.00 and/or jail time up to a year! I requested a court appointed lawyer for this and i just need help and advice on what, realistically will happen to me and if the court appointed lawyers will really help me with this. I am going to school to try and get my nursing degree and i'm terrified this will ruin all of my hopes and hard work. Help please!

You've learned that you've broken the law. Frankly, I find your story incredible. More often than not I hold things for my wife as women don't tend to have pockets and she often leaves her purse behind. Anyway, the first step is to be proof that the husband had a current prescription for vicodin that will go a long way into trying to corroborate your story.
