Civil Demand Letter
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
First of all, I would like to thank those of you who have responded to my earlier posts regarding my shoplifting incident. You all gave me great insight and assistance and my case was settled yesterday. I plead 'guilty' and was allowed to enter a state of deferred sentencing; put on probation for 6 mos, a fine and some community service. If all goes well with that, then I have a clean record at the end, which is what I wanted so I can move forward after this hard lesson and be employable.
I paid all the court ordered fines immediately after I was sentenced. I still have yet to receive a civil demand letter from Meijer's though. Should I just wait it out and see if I get a letter? I was under the impression from everything I've read that I will be getting a letter, but I thought it would be sent much sooner. All my lawyer told me at the beginning of all of this is "dont' pay it if you get a letter until you talk to me". Would it be prudent to contact someone? I am just concerned that for some reason this will ruin my credit, and currently, it is pristine and I'd like to keep it that way. Should I contact Meijer and ask them?

Re: Civil Demand Letter
You may not get a civil demand. If you do, as your lawyer has told you "dont' pay it if you get a letter until you talk to me", I suggest that you contact your lawyer to discuss it before taking any action. I do not suggest contacting Meijer.

Re: Civil Demand Letter
Hi,
what is meant by 'enter a state of deferred sentencing' ? I was caught shoplifting in Kohls and got a civil demand letter asking me to pay$325.00....I am praying god not to charge any criminal charges againist to me...
