Roomate Harassing Me but Won't Let Me Out of the Lease
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Florida
I moved in with my Friend at the beginning of the year.
We signed a lease for the apartment for one year. Well
she ended up having her boyfriend move in with us who now
proudly declares it his house. Well they both basically told
me I have to move out because of me not being able to pay
my bills on time. So I went out found me a new roomate and now
she is telling me I can't live there but I have to pay ad long as the
Lease is still valid. Her boyfriend told me if I stay there he will
make my life a living hell. He already made it very clear to me too
If I go to the police it will only get worse...
I have emails and messages saved from them telling me that
I need to move out and I'm not welcomed any more ... And the fact
That I have to pay or they will sue me ...
My question is:
What legal rights do I have in regards to breaking a lease because
of a hostile living place I heard of an agreement for release of lease.
But what can I do if she won't sign but I can't live there because of
Them threatening me herassing me and such ... I'm really in fear of
what threy will do with my stuff if I don't leave or worse what they
will do to me ....
Re: Roomate Herassing Me but Wont Let Me Move Out / Go of the Lease
As long as you are on the lease, you have the right to be in the apartment, whether they like it or not. They have no legal standing to demand that you move out, but continue to pay.
You need to speak to your landlord about being removed from the lease if you intend to move out. S/he may or may not agree to it, there's no law forcing your LL to consent.
