    Emancipation in Indiana For a 15-year-old Female
    First I would like to say hello to everyone reading this, I appreciate that you took the time out to help me.

    How do I even begin...

    My parents, especially my mom, have a history of violence against me. My father has broke my left foot as well as left some strong bruises. My mom constantly threatens to kill me or break some part of my body. Because of this and some other factors I was emotionally scared and began to cut myself. I spend a week and a half in Meadows. Recently I spent two weeks in a youth shelter willingly because I was threatened by my parents. I've been in and out of family friends' houses.

    I haven't gotten much help in my situation. I thought I could wait to start the emancipation process when I turn 16 in december but the house is getting worse and worse. I am not safe. However, I don't have any family here, they are all in Egypt. I know it makes it harder but I have family willing to take me in there so I wish to go stay with them.

    Is there anything I can do? Because I am still in the house and am being monitored please email me at mennah.sarrag@gmail.com with a reply. I can access it more than this site.

    Thank you and God be with you.

    Indiana has no emancipation statute, but it may nonetheless be possible to convince a juvenile court to grant emancipation where the court finds:
    1. The petitioning minor wishes to be free from parental control and protection and no longer requires control and protection;

    2. The petitioning minor understands the consequences of being free from parental control and protection

    3. The petitioning minor has sufficient money for the child's own support; and

    4. The petitioning minor has an acceptable plan for independent living.
    Without a statute to reference, it is difficult to gauge what a judge might deem sufficient as a basis for emancipation.

    Young one have you ever contacted child protective services to come in and investigate your home. Do you go to school. If you do go to school you can go to the guidance counselor especially when you have a bruise and show it to them by law they have to call CPS and they will talk to you. If you choose to do that don't be afraid to talk to them they will help you. It is a serious problem when a child is afraid of their home and you should get help. If you ever need to talk please e-mail me at jazzyautumn@hotmail.com I once had to talk to CPS and I could possibly help you get through it. Also if you don't mind me asking where do you live.
