Emancipation for an Abused 15-Year-Old
My question involves guardianship in the State of: IOWA
I am 14 years old, turning 15 next month. I was abused my drug attic mom and step dad until I was 13 years old, which then I was placed in foster care for half year. I then went back to my mom and step dad for 3 months where abuse contiuned then I was placed by DHS with my 25 year old half-sister and her dad. Things were going ok the first few months but now are horrible. I've been with her for a year and a half now and things are just bad. Her dad has called the cops on me 28 time since last august and had me arrested for assaulting him when I never touched him. I am a big dude and he takes me as intimidating so thats why I think he calls the cops all the time. He calls them when we have verbal fights. I am not a physically aggresive person at all. Well, my sister apparently is giving her guardianship up so I would enter foster care. I want to emancipate myself As soon as possible. I had a vacation into NYC in June and I want to move out there. I have found jobs out there I can apply for pluse when I turn 16 I have 2,500 worth of CODS to spend, plus I have a few ounces of gold given to me I could sell.
Basically, I want to know when can I be emancipated, and what are the rules, and once im emancipated could I move from Iowa to New york? Thanks
Re: 15 Year-Old Emancipation Law (Been Abused)
There is absolutely no chance of you being emancipated.
I'm sorry. It's just not happening. Please spend some time reading other threads on emancipation.
Re: 15 Year-Old Emancipation Law (Been Abused)
There are only two states which will even consider emancipating a 15 year old, neither of which is either Iowa or NY, and based on what you have posted you would not qualify for emancipation even if they were.

Even if you could be emancipated - and you can't - that tiny little bit of money won't cover even a month's expenses in NYC. That's not even enough for first and last month's rent and a security deposit.
If you're being abused, call CPS. Emancipation is not an option.
