Summons to Appear As a Witness in Another State
My question involves criminal law for the state of: North Dakota, Delaware
What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Dakota - Delaware
I received a summons to appear as a witness for the state in a non-jury. A friend of mine is being charged with disorderly conduct. The problem is that the trial is in Delaware and I live in North Dakota on an Indian Reservation. I was visiting family when the incident occured. I do not want to spend $1000 in air travel to go witness against my friend. I know that if I don't show up they will issue a warrant. Any way I can avoid this extraordinary expense?
Thanks

will they allow a video conference witness testimony? I would not spend 1K out of my own pocket & then find out the case is continued for a month ..
Re: Summons to Appear As a Witness in Another State
You mean you received a subpoena? What state were you in when you were served? You are to testify for the prosecution or for the defense?
If you were summoned to be a prosecution witness, you can contact the prosecutor's office and inform them that you lack the resources to travel for the trial. See how they respond.
