My question involves criminal law for the state of: Tennessee
I was caught shoplifting $26 of product at a grocery store. I know they'll NEVER believe me but I really didn't mean to do it. I had it in my hand and also had my wallet in my hand. Somehow it ended up in there with my wallet, probably while I was messing with my kids. Anyway, they got the merchandise back but they were really mean with me about it and the police were called. I have a court date.
My questions are not only what can I expect in court, but is my job going to find out about this? I work for another retailer and I answered them when they asked where I work. Also, this isn't my "first offense" I don't think. A looooong time ago I was fired from that store from stealing. (Dumb..I know). It was a very long time ago and I paid the money back and left. Nothing else came of it. Could I expect that to come back up? I also completed a diversion program for a non-shoplifting charge around the same time the first thing happened (this was all about 6 years ago).
