Scared About First Shoplifting Charge

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland

Hi guys.

First i must say that iam very scared... :( Iam not from USA.. iam here for 4 months just for work and travel. Iam 21 and iam student in my country. So today i was in one shop near my place and i dont know why but i try to stole one item which costs 25 $. It was package with pills... I just open it and put the pills in my pocket... after that i walk around and saw one guy notice that i want to stole something.. I throw the pills in one bucket in the market and i just left the market and go home...

Iam scared because its my first time to stole something.. i think that the guy was talking on the phone after that.. If he called the police is there is chances police to search for me? Or they will do nothing? Please help me with some advice cuz if i go to police station i will get black stamp for USA and i wont be able to come here anymore or maybe police will tell to my company here in that iam working and they will fire me..

Also i want to ask... Are the security from shop will searching for tapes and give the tapes from security cameras to the police if they call the police... Can police recognize my face? i was with sunglasses.

It is possible for the Loss Prevention person to have gotten the license plate number (I assume you were in a vehicle), and yes, they can obtain the address of where you are residing and come knocking on your door.

Yes, police can see the videotape. Yes, even with sunglasses you can be recognized.

If you do not want to be black stamped from the USA, do not steal.

I know that i made a crime and now i cannot believe that... I will not do that anymore i promise :( I was with bike not with car. So i wanna ask you.. Did they make an investigation for small "crime" like that.. and to call the police for that and stuff like that? Are they will searching for me and are they can caught me on airport?

If on a bike....they may have your picture posted on the wall in the LP office and by employee timeclocks.

So that means that maybe i will be posted in the shops? So i will be optimistic and i will say that they will not send a police to search me for not even a crime... I will not do that again and i will not go to that shop again :) Thanks anyway

Yes, your picture may be in the shop...along with any neighboring stores. It would like say "Attn employees, if you see this person, call Loss Prevention immediately".
