Can I File Charges for Being Held Against My Will in Mexico by My Ex and Her Family
My question involves criminal law for the state of: CA
well here is my question, i was on vacation with my ex and my 6 month old daughter in mexico, and we had some issues between me and my ex. the problem arose when i tried to leave the country to head back home and my ex's older sister refused to give me my passport and plane ticket back to the states. my ex and her brother had taken my belongings and my daughter an hour away from where i was staying, and did not return my documents even after local police were called. i was forced to stay till our departure date, and even then i was not given my passport till i got to the airport. for three days i asked for my documents, and to see my daughter to no avail. i would like to know if it would be possible for me to file charges for this unlawful detention?

That is an issue of Mexican law while this site deals with US law. Given the dubious nature of the Mexican judicial system it would do you no good for us to theorize as to what could/could not happen there. You would need to report this to the authorities in whichever Mexican city/town you were vacationing in.

Yea i kinda figured, seeing how i called the police over there on the sister twice, and both times they left without helping. they just told the family that was holding me against my will to give me my passport and then left. i was unfamiliar with the area and had no idea where or what i could do. thanks for the response anyways.
