Processes Following a Legal Name Change in Texas
My question involves name change laws in the State of: Texas
Hi, I am 18 and looking to change my name. I researched the process of legally changing my name on the internet, but my question is after I change my name, is that just it? Or is there more legal things I have to take care of? For example, I am attending college at a university, and I was informed that I may be at risk of not receiving financial aid assistance from my college (because the names won't match), and that my parents will have months-load of other things they would need to change that they put my name under. And filing taxes would also be a big hassle for them. Is changing a name really that troublesome? I was thinking that since my social security number doesn't change, it wouldn't really matter what the name is my parents put under. Is there that much more stuff to changing a name that I don't realize? Thanks in advance for the replies!

People change their names. Universities have encountered name changes before - whether by name change order, as the result of marriage, via naturalization.... We have no way of knowing about the "load of things" you imagine that your parents would have to change. Your SSN will be the same, so I'm not seeing why it would be more difficult for them to claim you as a dependent.
