Roommate Was Primary Borrower, Account Now in Collections
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: WA

My roommate took out a credit card because she was in a car accident and could not afford her deductible. She needed a co-signer and was very hysterical about the whole thing I felt bad and it was kind of pressured on me to do it. I checked my credit report today and found out the account is now in collections. What can i do?

Pay the bill you agreed to pay? That's what happens to cosigners when the borrower defaults.

If she made a verbal or written promise that she would pay this off by herself and is not doing that, I believe you can sue her. It sounds like the debt in question is a few hundred dollars, so I would sue her in your state's small claims court.

I am not a lawyer although sometimes I wish I were.
