Emancipation in Ohio
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: im 16 about to turn 17 and wish to get emancipated. When I turn 17 I want to join the military. When my parents sign for me to join am I automatically emancipated? Or is there a process I have to go through?

Re: Emancipation in Ohio
Ohio law will consider you emancipated once you are a member of the ACTIVE armed forces.

Re: Emancipation in Ohio
Once you are IN the military you are considered emancipated. Emancipation is recognition that a child who is functioning independently should be allowed the relief from certain things (signing contracts, etc...) that minors are not authorized. You asked if you could be emancipated if your parents signed to allow you to enter the military. The answer is that them signing isn't enough, once you actually enter the military you will be considered emancipated. You could then enter into contracts.
