Possibly Moving Out at 17
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Indiana
Before I ask my question, I looked through all the forums & saw nothing related to my question. I'm not wanting to move because I'm a 15-17 year old girl wanting to move in with a boyfriend my age or way older, just because my mommy & daddy won't let me see him. :p
Okay, I am 17 years old & 4 months. I have a son who will be 5 months old in 13 days. My mom has been unemployed since he was born & just isn't trying to look for a job. She's always crying because she "doesn't know how she's gonna pay the bills." Instead of paying the electric bill, which was in disconnect, she went out & bought a brand new iPhone, then got mad because my boyfriend (baby's father) wouldn't pay the $330 bill for her, when we needed to buy diapers, wipes, & a few bottles for our son. She's gone countless times to township trustees & other people who help out. It's always done at the last minute, though & when she goes she just pretends to have a breakdown & cries until they help her. I know that she's going to run out of places to turn to soon. I've tried getting a job to help out since she won't get one, but she won't allow me to. I'm not allowed to get my license, either. She won't allow me to visit my dad because he'll take me to get it. She tries to keep me from seeing my dad by making me leave with her when he comes to get me, I have no phone so I'm unable to tell him where we go. She has my son's birth certificate & social security card, & keeps telling me she has one more appointment, then I'll get it back. I'm afraid she's going to try & make a copy of both & claim him on taxes. Legally, she can't since she's been unemployed since February, right? She knows I want to move out when I'm 18 & told me that she's going to make me miserable the rest of the time I spend here. She's threatened to take my baby away from me multiple times.
So now on to my question. I would like to move in with my friend, whom I've known since 3rd grade. We would get an apartment & both work to pay the bills. My son will have day care & be with his father on his days off. I will be finishing school, I already have more than enough credits to graduate, I just need to finish 4 required classes. I should be graduated by October. I do plan on going to the court house to see what I can do. I was just wondering if there may be any way to move without going through emancipation. I do not want to move in with my boyfriend right now. We have talked about it & it's just too big of a step for our relationship right now. Any advice would be immensely appreciated!! Thank you. :D
Re: Possibly Moving Out at 17
Unless you have parental permission, you are staying exactly where you are until you are 18 and not one minute earlier. Nor do you qualify to be emancipated. Nothing you have posted above changes either of those two facts.
