What's the Civil Payment that Shoplifters Have to Pay
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Caififornia
My sister and myself were caught last night shoplifting at a KMart amd now we are both stressing how much the Fine will be.
Basically the LP just stopped us outside of the store and asked us to give her back what we had taken and then she took us to the back so that she could get our information and such. Since we were both minors our mom had to come and get us. I am 15 and the amount was $36 and she didn't call the Police because we were very coroperative and she felt bad for even fining us.
My mom is just worried about the fine because it is the recession and times are hard. If anyone could help me get a number so that I could start saving up, (Babysitting, etc.) It would be very helpful. Tahnk You

Pursuant to Penal Code Sec. 490.5, the store can submit a civil demand for each of you for "damages of not less than fifty dollars ($50) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500), plus costs."
