Birth Certificate and Social Security Card Name Does Not Match
I currently reside in: Florida
Recently I discoveredthat the name that I used my entire life was never legally changed. I was born with my mothers last name at the time. There is no father listed on my birth certificate. Apparently when I was 3 my mother remarried. She went to the social security office because she lost my ss card. While there, she asked if she could change my name on my social security card to the name of my step father. Since I had no father listed, they allowed it.
Now I am trying to renew my drivers license and the birth certificate that I have does not match the name that I used my entire life.
To further complicate things,I am now married. I did not discover the name differences until now. Therefore, everything that I have is either in my step fathers last name or my married name.I have nothing from my birth name except for my birth certificate.
How do I change my last name at birth without changing my married name, and is my marriage even legal since the name on the marriage license was ot my legal name?
Please, any guidance would be appreciated.
Re: Birth Certificate and Social Security Card Name Does Not Match
Your marriage is valid, no worries. You simply married under an alias used in good faith, that's not illegal.
You might look into having your name legally changed to your stepfather's, since you've been using it for so long. That would be the easiest course.
