Suing Roommate to Get My Rent Money Back
My question involves court procedures for the state of: Illinois

I found a roommate who owned a townhouse and rented out a bedroom to me for $550/month. I gave her first and last months rent upfront (total of $1,100). She ended up being very manipulative, controlling, and had a serious anger management problem. I could not take her harassment and temper tantrums anymore so I decided to leave after 7 weeks instead of staying for the 8 weeks I paid for.

The way I see it, she owes me 1/4 of my monthly rent because her out of control personality drove me out of the house prematurely. She also did not allow me to take any of my food when I left, and I just bought $75 worth of groceries 2 days before moving out.

I want to take her to small claims court to get my money back and possibly seek damages for emotional distress. We did not sign any type of lease or written agreement at all. It was all verbal and I simply gave her cash and did not receive any type of receipt. The only actual documentation of her harassment was made by the police the night when I moved out. I had to call the cops because she was on the verge of physically assaulting me. Otherwise my co workers would be good witnesses as I frequently complained about her at work.

What are my chances of winning and how can I structure my case?

What are my chances of winning the case?
