Can I Emancipate When I Turn 17
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Louisiana / Tennessee .
I am 17 years old as of June 2nd and I would like to get emancipated. My reason why is...
Ever since I was younger my mother would always get loaded... just recently she had stopped, which I was happy for her. Then she had met this woman, and the woman had influenced her to do drugs again... my mother had ODed a few weeks ago. I was close to breaking down in the since of feed up with all of the drama. Then yesterday, the lady that she has talked to decided to like my mom in her house ( you need a key to unlike the door from the inside.) so it was basically kidnapping. I called the cops. And I was the one that got arrested... because my mom lies to the cops for the lady... I am feed up with all of the drama. I work hard in school, I try my hardest. I actually am in all honors classes and skipped Junior year. Now I have family who will help me in Tennessee, I was wondering if I could get emancipated and how. My mother will most likely not sign me away. And I want NOTHING to do with her. I am angry and would like her to see how it is to lose someone that you love.
If I am to get emancipated my family in Tennessee would offer me a place to live - with the catch of paying rent and buying my own groceries. Because my aunt has this large 3 story house that the bottom floor is like another house. I was wonder which state would I have to sign off for emancipation with. And how would I go about doing it.
Re: I Am 17 As of June 2. I Would Like To
You do not qualify for emancipation.
Please read the other threads here - in order to be emancipated you must be able to support yourself and generally be already living outside of the home.
Re: I Am 17 As of June 2. I Would Like To
Even if you were emancipated, you would still be under the jurisdiction of the court that emancipated you... which is why trying to get emancipated so you can move out of state just won't happen.

Your description of what you would do if emancipated does not meet the requirements.
