J1 to F1 Before Meeting the Home Residency Requirement
I was a holder of J1 visa and I am a subject to 2 year home residency. I just finished my sophomore high school year. If I apply for college early, get accepted and get the F1 visa (also considering the fact that I would spend one year in my home country before I leave for college, my "senior" year), would my coming to the home country during the summer breaks and winter breaks count towards the ending of the two years that I need to spend in my home country?
Re: J1 to F1 Before Meeting the Home Residency Requirement
A F1 visa is a nonimmigrant visa, so the two year rule doesn't apply to your eligibility for that visa (but will continue to apply to you at the conclusion of your studies).
To try to have your visits home counted you should keep good records of your travel and be prepared to document that throughout your F1 studies you had an actual residence in your home country.
Re: J1 to F1 Before Meeting the Home Residency Requirement
The fact that you are worried about the home residency requirement even before receiving your F1 visa, indicates that you are considering immigrating to the US after completing your studies. A person with no immigrant intent would not be looking at a way around the residency requirement while still on the J1 visa.
