Does She Have to Be Emancipated
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Missouri and Arkansas
My daughter is going to be getting her GED soon. She is 15 and will be sixteen in august. She wants to start college early, and start out at a community college in our hometown in AR. We live in Missouri now. I don't want to move back there, but she really does, and I trust her to be on her own. So my question is, is there any way that she could move there and stay with a friend or something and attend college without me? Does she have to be emancipated? And if so, would we have to go by mo laws since we live there, or AR laws since she wants to move there? Thanks!
Re: Does She Have to Be Emancipated
Unless she needs to enter into contracts or whatever, there's no need to be emancipated. If you can find an adequate living situation (hopefully with some sort of adult supervision), that is up to you as her parents to decide.
Re: Does She Have to Be Emancipated
What's more, she CANNOT be emancipated - nothing you have posted suggests that she meets the requirements. But lots and lots of kids go out of state to college before they turn 18 - there's no requirement that they be emancipated first.
