Assaulted, but the Other Person Filed Charges
I was assaulted by a woman at a concert in Charlotte, NC. Everybody talked afterward and it seemed everything was fine. We thought nothing of it. the other day i woke up to a police man at my door with a Supenoa(sp). It seems she is claiming I hit her.

I tried to go to Mecklenburg Co. Police Dept. and file charges aganst her, but they said since she has already filed a report they can't file another one, and if i want to press charges then i need to take my evidence to court and do it there. Is this true?

I could have sworn I've heard of people filing reports aganst each other all the time....I thought it was normal.....please help. If I need to press charges i need to do so quickly....

P.S. I realize now that I mispelled blame....

If you're charged with assault, it would be sensible for you to work with a criminal defense lawyer. I don't know what the officer was trying to tell you to do, and am not in a position to ask him to clarify; the interpretation you give does not make sense.

On top of that, you should NEVER take legal advice from a police officer. While they may have the best intentions, they don't have law degrees, and they are not there to fight for or protect your rights - they are there to enforce the law, and those two things are sometimes VERY at odds with each other.
