Overreactions to Rumors of Planned Misconduct at School
My question involves education law in the State of: Texas

Yesterday I got a phone call from my sons school..... He was in trouble because it was reported to the principal that he was planning a "food fight" the last day of school. Bear in mind, there was no food fight nor was there going to be one..... this is just another example of the rumor mill. The principal stated that he was "masterminding" this event and if if went through he would be held solely responsible. He then showed him this:

    TITLE 11
    Criminal Offenses
    CHAPTER 11-11
    Disorderly Conduct
    SECTION 11-11-1

§ 11-11-1 Disturbance of public assemblies generally. – Every person who shall willfully interrupt or disturb any town or ward meeting, any assembly of people met for religious worship, any military funeral or memorial service, any public or private school, any meeting lawfully and peaceably held for purposes of moral, literary or scientific improvement, or any other lawful meeting, exhibition or entertainment, either within or without the place where the meeting or school is held, shall be imprisoned not exceeding one year or be fined not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500).

........Now, bear in mind that my boy is only nine years old. He was told that this was serious and if the food fight happened he could go to jail for gang/terrorist related activities...........TERRORIST!?!?!

What the hell makes this guy think he can associate my son with THAT WORD! My boy was about in tears last night thinking he was going to be in trouble for TERRORISM! Needless to say, I am going to have a meeting with this "chump" at the school office to see what the hell is running through his crazy head to even think of saying these things to a nine year old boy. These are serious accusations and they will be met with serious consequences..... I'm not even sure how to approach this without "flipping my lid"!

    Thoughts?....How should I handle this?

Sorry, but what's the overreaction? The principal heard rumblings of a potential disturbance, called the child into the office, expressed his concern and promptly informed the young man of the consequences of the act. He said "if" the event happened, then this would be the consequence. He didn't label the child, he used the language from the school's disciplinary handbook. You should be happy that he was proactive in taking action towards a potential threat.
