Failure to Appear After Cell Phone Ticket in California
I recieved a 23123 (a) VC for cell phone (Even though I have no call records and wasn't on my cell phone) while driving in Van Nuys, California. I have never received a traffic ticket before...I thought that the Court was going to send me something in the mail letting me know how to pay my fine. (I just thought this is what you do) and I found out that I missed my court appearance that was in March!!! I now have a FTA and collections wants 875.00!!! I am a full time grad student who lives off financial aide. I don't know what to do....Please help!

You can contact the court about paying your fine and whether you can make payments.
You're a college student - it didn't occur to you to read the ticket and follow the instructions printed on the ticket?

In addition to the FTA and the additional fines, there is a great chance that the court placed a hold on your license (i.e. suspended it). So I would refrain from driving unless and until you can verify that your license is still valid.
If it is suspended, then you must contact the court and either pay the fines or schedule a court appearance, then go to the DMV to have it reinstated...
