Deposition in Child Custody Hearing

State: CALIFORNIA

Ex-girlfriend who I share a child with and I were never married, been in and out of court the past few years as I get more visitation as our son gets older.

Headed back to court this summer, last week I got served with a deposition subpoena. Kind of surprised me, as (since we were never married) we're not dividing assets up or anything. Any number of allegations have been levied by her in the past.

Is this common? Should I be worried? Hire an attorney, or go by myself?

...and the deposition was regarding what?

That actually is the question... the deposition occurs in a week or two. I have been given no information as to what the line of questioning is about.
