Late Fees on Top of Late Fees
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Nevada

Due to circumstances beyond my control it was necessary to pay my monthly rent 2 days late, which incurred a $100 late fee. While the rent was paid in full, I explained that the late fee could not be paid until the following pay day, which the manager accepted. Now, over a week later, I receive a written notice that although the late payment arrangement regarding the late fee was accepted, a $5 per day late fee is being imposed on the late fee itself. I question whether this is legal. As charges are mounting, I would very much appreciate a response ASAP. Thank you.

What is the exact language of your lease pertaining to rent due dates, grace periods and late fees.

The lease is inaccessible until Monday, but neither of us recalls any mention of a $5 per day late fee - in addition to a $100 late fee - which we'd have questioned, as we went through the extremely lengthy agreement with a fine-toothed comb and asked for clarification on all points that were either unclear or seemed unreasonable. Such a condition would have sent up red flags. As soon as I can review the agreement, will provide the info. I might be able to understand a $5 per day penalty on unpaid RENT - but, the rent is paid in full. This charge is being imposed on a late fee, which is beyond comprehension.

Charging late fees on late fees could be a violation of the state "usury" laws.
