    What State's Laws Govern a Divorce
    My question involves marriage law for the State of: Michigan

    my friend and her husband got married in key west florida but they are residing here in michigan, if they get divorce what state are they going to follow regarding marraige law?..and for 4 months of marraige he wants to kick her out of his house what are her rights as his wife for 4 months?..im sad and confused for her she just needed advice from me but i have nothing to say im not good advicer..please if somebody is kind to share their knowledge i would really appreciate to here from you..thank you.

    They would be governed by the state holding jurisdiction. Every state that I have lived in has a residency clause in the statutes governing dissolution of marriage/divorce. That clause determines who may petition the court to dissolve a marriage under state law. Here in Arizona, the Arizona Revised Statutes require that at least one party must have resided in the state for a minimum of ninety consecutive days before filing a petition for dissolution of marriage (that's what we call a divorce here) in a Superior Court of the State of Arizona. Your friend would be well advised to look up Michigan's statutes.
