Assaulted at a Bar and the Offender is Pressing Charges
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maine
On Tuesday I was at the bar. This guy decided he wanted to pick a fight and tackled me to the ground. Once I finally got my pants unstuck from the railing he tackled me over I rolled him over and was restraining him. He girlfriend then repeatedly kicked me in the face.
The fight then got broken up and I left. As me and my girlfriend were sitting in the car waiting for a couple friends to come out the guy then crossed the street and ripped open my door and sucker punched me in the face.
I then called the police and they came and got statements. I left a message with the officer saying I wanted to press charges. He called me back and informed me the other guy also wants to press charges. So the officer said he is giving us both summons. I have x-rays, pictures and eye witnesses.
What should I do?
Does he have a case?
Should I get a lawyer?
Any tips for court would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

If you are charged, you need a lawyer.
Retaliation is not self defense.
The fact he got the last punch in doesn't eliminate the rest of the mutual criminal activity.
